The TCU Alcohol and Drug Education Center is based on a philosophy of student development incorporating personal and community wellness. The Center promotes healthy life style choices and responsible decision-making through programs, training and alternative activities. Center programs and activities are designed to support and enrich the students’ overall academic experience while contributing to their personal, moral, ethical, and social development. The Alcohol and Drug Education Center encourages students to develop a sense of responsibility for self, for others, and for their community by assuming leadership in setting behavioral norms for the campus community that promote health and reduce risk.

Mission Statement
The mission of the TCU Alcohol & Drug Education Center is to enhance students’ overall academic experiences and personal development through the promotion of responsible decision-making and healthy lifestyle choices, especially regarding alcohol and other drugs.
Goals
- Enhance the academic mission of the university by insuring that the abuse of alcohol and other drugs does not interfere with academic goal attainment;
- Enhance student development of leadership skills by providing opportunities for students to positively influence the campus and community environment;
- Enhance student responsibility to self, others, and the world by assisting individuals in making responsible and ethical decisions regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs;
- Clarify and enhance students’ sense of citizenship through active involvement in programs designed to educate and inform the TCU community about substance use and abuse;
- Continue to improve the efforts of the Alcohol and Drug Education Center and demonstrate effectiveness through needs assessment and evaluations.
Our Staff
Kimberly ‘Sparkle’ Greenhaw, Director
Sparkle Greenhaw, Ph.D., is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. She has worked at TCU since August 1995. Prior to her position in ADE, Sparkle worked at TCU in Residential Services as a Residence Hall Director.
Sparkle is the current Member at Large for the Texas College Counseling Association, Graduate Student Committee Chair for the American College Counseling Association, member of the International Collaboration Committee for the American College Counseling Association, and a member of the North Texas Consortium on Substance Abuse in Higher Education.
Sparkle received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Samford University. She earned her Master of Education and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of North Texas (UNT). Her specialty areas include college counseling, student development, and substance abuse.
Yvonne L. Giovanis, Assistant Director
Yvonne received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Southern Methodist University, and her Master of Education in Counseling and Guidance, with an emphasis in Student Affairs & Higher Education, from Texas State University, San Marcos. Yvonne oversees the education, prevention and outreach efforts for the Center. She works with several community coalitions through Tarrant County Challenge, and is an active member of NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) and Leadership Fort Worth.
Rachel Leshner, Program Specialist
As Program Specialist in the Alcohol and Drug Education Center, Rachel does a combination of individual assessment and counseling with students, and outreach and programming in the campus community. Her formal education and experience have prepared her to work in the higher education setting, counseling students individually and in groups.
Rachel Leshner has earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Tarleton State University – Stephenville, Texas, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Texas State University – San Marcos, Texas. Rachel is an active member of the Texas Counseling Association.
Before her position at Texas Christian University, Rachel worked at the University of Texas at Arlington with the TRiO Pre-College Programs , and completed an internship in the Counseling Services Office.
